4WD track in the Southland region
Waituna Lagoon Road is an easy Southland coastal run east of Invercargill, leading to an internationally significant wetland with great birdlife and beach driving.
Out east of Invercargill, the road runs down to Waituna Lagoon, a wetland of international significance on the Southland coast. Easy enough run to get there, with the option to stop for a walk along the lagoon edge or carry on down onto the beach for a cruise along the sand.
The road in is pretty cruisy, but the beach section wants sensible tides and a bit of care on the soft sand. Good one for a relaxed day out in one of Southland's special coastal spots.
