A scenic back-country alternative to the main run north through the Coromandel, winding over the hill and through pockets of native bush. The road links up a string of small, quiet beaches, so it makes a good day trip if you want to slow down and get off the busier highway.

Surface is graded gravel with plenty of twists and turns. Nothing technical here, just an easygoing drive that gives you coastal and bush views as you go round the corners.

Take your time and stop off at the little beaches along the way.
