A gravel route that winds up through the hills, following the river for much of its lower length. The water keeps you company along the flats before the road starts to climb away from it.

It's a fairly easy gravel road, fine for most 4WDs. As you head up from the river flats the country opens out and you get views back across the valley.

The road keeps climbing until it reaches a locked gate, which marks the end of the public section. No rush getting up there, the scenery shifts the whole way.
