Up behind the old gold-mining settlement of St Bathans, this loop runs through the hills and links round to other roads in the surrounding high country. Works well as a through-route.

Mostly open tussock and rolling hill country, with wide views across the Manuherikia Valley and the ranges beyond.

St Bathans itself is worth a stop for the heritage buildings and the Blue Lake. Take your time and make a day of it.
