4WD track in the Canterbury region
Paddle Hill Creek is a short medium-grade side track off Hakatere Heron Road in Canterbury's high country, running out through tussock to the creek.
Branching off Hakatere Heron Road, this little side track heads out through classic high-country backcountry to the creek that gives it its name. Open tussock and braided-river country all around, the kind of wide, empty Hakatere scenery that makes the drive worthwhile.
It sits at a medium grade with plenty of character but nothing too demanding. There are some deeply carved-out ruts and holes along the way to keep you honest. The track ends at the creek, so it's an out-and-back rather than a through route, more of a fun detour than a long expedition.
Stay on the formed route and don't drive past the marked end. Keeping to the track is what helps keep this area open for everyone.
