Out past the everyday traffic, this track heads into a quiet, isolated pocket of country on its way to the Upper Oreti Hut. The hut is a simple, remote DOC place sitting well away from anything, and it's a good payoff after the run in.

The drive crosses mixed terrain getting out there, so it stays varied and keeps things interesting. Don't expect much in the way of facilities. The hut is basic, and once you head in there's little around.

Before you set off you'll need to contact DOC Invercargill to arrange a key for access.
