Heading through the Marlborough Sounds, this one climbs over a small pass before dropping down toward the bays. On a clear day the views out over the water are well worth it, with the maze of inlets and forested ridgelines spread out below.

It's a well-formed gravel road. A good way to take in the Sounds without needing serious off-road skills.

Take your time over the pass and pull over at the lookouts. Keep an eye on the weather though, it can roll in quickly and change how much of the view you actually get.
