Landsborough Valley

4WD track in the West Coast region

Landsborough Valley is a short, scenic West Coast 4WD track climbing to Strutt Bluff, with overgrown scrub, river-bed fords and big views at the far end.

(3)

Retired farmland out on the Coast that climbs toward Strutt Bluff, this one runs about 12 km and pays off with some of the best views once you reach the far end. A short, scenic trip if you're set up for it.

It's a mix of gravel road and 4WD track, infrequently maintained and not one for 2WD. Heavy scrub and overgrowth crowd the track and will scratch paint, so bring something you don't mind picking up a bit of bush rash. There are several streams and river-bed sections to ford that can be tricky to read, and fallen trees are common given how seldom it gets cleared. Compact, capable rigs like a Suzuki suit it well. Tall vehicles and roof-top tents will struggle to clear obstacles in places.

There are good spots to camp along the way, and an unmarked DOC hut to find that doesn't show up on the DOC site. A satisfying outing for the well-prepared.
