Lake Pukaki view point

4WD track in the Otago region

Lake Pukaki view point is an easy Mackenzie Country spur dropping to the turquoise lakeshore with big mountain views, fine for most vehicles.

A short spur that drops down to the shore of Lake Pukaki. The detour doesn't take long and it gets you right down to the water's edge, with views across the lake toward the mountains beyond.

The track itself is nothing challenging, so most vehicles will manage it fine. The reason to come is the scenery. Pukaki's bright turquoise glacial water sits against the snow-capped peaks, and on a clear day it's hard to beat.

Good spot to pull over, stretch your legs and line up a photo before heading back to the main route. Take your time and enjoy one of the high country's best views.
