A rough gravel road climbs into the Hochstetter Historic Area, country with a long history of gold and coal mining. The surroundings are a working forestry landscape, a mix of regenerating bush and managed plantation, so the scenery shifts as you go.

Worth remembering that this is an active logging area. Keep an eye out for logging trucks and give them plenty of room, take it slow around blind corners, and be ready to pull over where you can.
