Hochstetter Historic Area access

4WD track in the West Coast region

This rough gravel road climbs into the Hochstetter Historic Area on the West Coast, a region rich in old gold and coal mining heritage. The route winds through working forestry country, so the surroundings are a mix of regenerating bush and managed plantation.

The driving is steady but unpolished, with a loose gravel surface that demands sensible speeds and a bit of care on the climbs. Nothing here is technical, but it is a back-country road rather than a manicured one.

A word of warning: this is an active logging area, so keep an eye out for logging trucks and give them plenty of room. Take it slow around blind corners and be ready to pull over where you can.
