Bullock Creek

4WD track in the West Coast region

Bullock Creek is an easy single-lane gravel road on the West Coast near Punakaiki, heading inland through limestone country to the Cave Creek Memorial walk.

(2)

Just north of Punakaiki, a single-lane gravel road runs inland through classic West Coast limestone country. It takes you into the Bullock Creek valley, past climbing crags, and links up with the Inland Pack Track. It's also the usual starting point for the walk to the Cave Creek Memorial.

The road is generally easy in dry weather and usually in good nick, so most vehicles will manage it when things are settled. This is karst country on the edge of Paparoa National Park though, and it floods fast after heavy rain, so conditions can shift quickly.

A quiet, scenic side trip with low bush rash and a real sense of remoteness, despite sitting only a short way off the main coast road.
