4WD track in the Otago region
Braemar Station Road is an easy gravel cruise along the quiet eastern shore of Lake Pukaki, with big views across to Aoraki/Mt Cook.
Along the quieter eastern side of Lake Pukaki, this gravel road makes a relaxed alternative to the busier western shore. The views across the turquoise water to Aoraki/Mt Cook and the surrounding ranges are the main reason to come. There's plenty of working high-country infrastructure dotted along the way, so you get a feel for the station country it runs through.
The road itself is easy and well suited to most vehicles. This is a scenic cruise rather than a technical challenge, and it's consistently rated well for the views rather than any difficulty.
In summer there are lots of spots to pull over for a swim and soak up the alpine scenery. Good one if you're after big-mountain and lakeside views without the crowds.
