Logantown lies in the Bendigo Goldfields, reached via the winding Bendigo Loop Road off State Highway 8 north of Lake Dunstan. Founded in 1869 after rich quartz reefs were discovered by Thomas Logan, it quickly grew into a busy cluster of hotels, shops, and a hall that served as both church and school. At its peak, around 400 people called it home before fortunes shifted in the early 1870s. Today, stone foundations, cottage ruins, and a weathered wooden dray remain—silent reminders of Central Otago’s gold-rush past.
