A short 4WD run up the Ahaura River on the West Coast of the South Island. It's an awesome spot to park up and hang out, or pick your way along the riverbed and explore. There are a few different access points to choose from, giving you options for where to drop in and how far to roam.

Being a braided river route, the going changes from season to season as the water shifts the gravel and channels around. Keep an eye out for deep spots when crossing or following the river, and read the water before committing to a line.

The setting is classic West Coast river country, with open shingle flats and bush-clad surrounds making it a relaxed place to spend some time. It's a good casual outing rather than a long technical mission.
