Whareama Road

4WD track in the Wellington region

Whareama Road is a scenic Wairarapa 4WD easement linking Puketiritiri and Whareama Roads through JNL forest and the Rewa Bush Conservation Area.

Whareama Road sits in the Wairarapa hills of the Wellington region, linking Puketiritiri Road and Whareama Road through the JNL forest estate. The route follows the Whareama Public Easement, a statutory Public Access Easement created under the Crown Forest Assets Act, which gives the public legal right of way through this working forest.

Along the way the track threads through the beautiful Rewa Bush Conservation Area before emerging on the far side, mixing established pine plantation with a pocket of native bush. It's a scenic connection that makes a satisfying through-route rather than a dead-end run.

Because this is an active forestry area, temporary closures can occur for harvesting, slips, or fire risk, so check the latest access notices before you set off. Respect the working forest, keep to the formed road, and leave gates as you find them.
