Winding back road through the hill country around Motu, inland from Gisborne. It's a handy shortcut that cuts out a fair stretch of sealed road while letting you take in the scenery along the way.

Mostly easygoing going, rolling through a mix of farmland and native bush. A few small fords to splash through, but nothing major, so it's a relaxed drive for most vehicles rather than a technical test.

If you're heading between Motu and Gisborne and would rather have dirt under the tyres than tarseal, it's a pleasant alternative with plenty of farm and bush country to enjoy.
