Tokerau Beach

4WD track in the Northland region

Tokerau Beach is an easy beach drive on Northland's Karikari Peninsula, popular for fishing, with the river mouth at the southern end closed to 4WDs.

(1)

Out on the Karikari Peninsula in the Far North, this is one of the last few beaches you can still drive onto in this part of the world. Plenty of room to spread out, and an easy, scenic spot to spend some time.

The driving is just straightforward beach work along the sand, a relaxed run rather than anything technical. It's a popular base for fishing and generally having a good time by the water.

Keep in mind the southern end near the river mouth is out of bounds for 4WDs, so steer clear of that area and respect the closure. Worth a stop for a look if you're exploring the peninsula.
