Following the Tauranga River, this is a relaxed drive with several little side tracks darting off toward the water for multiple crossings. The river shifts course often, so the fun is in picking your own line and reading the water as you go. Make-your-own-adventure stuff, generally rated easy and good fun.

There's a gated bush track in the area that may lead to a hut, though it's not clear who runs the land or whether access is allowed, so check before heading up. A nearby camp makes a decent base, and firewood is usually about.
