4WD track in the Northland region
Puwheke Road in Northland runs out to a quiet white-sand beach on the Karikari Peninsula, with park-up-and-walk access and big ocean views.
Out on the Karikari Peninsula, this one runs down to Puwheke Beach, a quieter corner of coast well away from the busier spots. Bright white sand, big open ocean views, and a peaceful feel once you're out there.
The road itself is an easy enough run to the coast. Worth noting that vehicle access onto the beach is no longer permitted, so plan to park up and explore on foot. The walk's no hardship and the sand and surrounds make it worthwhile.
Good destination if you're touring the peninsula and want to take in some of the coastline up north without the crowds.
