Puwheke Lookout sits in Northland, reached by a short but steep climb up from the beach to a high coastal vantage point. The track rises quickly above the sand, making it a quick and rewarding detour rather than a long journey.

From the top you're rewarded with sweeping views out over the bay, taking in the coastline and surrounding water. It's one of Northland's standout coastal high points and a great place to pause before heading back down.

Bring your camera for the panorama, and take care on the climb itself, which is the main challenge of the route.
