Prohibition Road

4WD track in the West Coast region

Prohibition Road climbs through the goldfields of the West Coast, winding its way up to a high point at around 580 metres where fine views open out across the surrounding country.

The route leads to the top of the country's deepest mineshaft, plunging 879 metres, and the foundations of the old ball mill where quartz was once ground to extract gold. It's a tangible piece of mining history sitting right alongside the scenery.

A worthwhile climb for anyone interested in the region's gold heritage, paired with rewarding views from the top.
