Porter Road (Side route)

4WD track in the Bay of Plenty region

Porter Road is a tricky forest side route in the Bay of Plenty with steep, root-laced pinches through shaded native and plantation bush.

A forest side route that winds through the hills, threading between native and plantation bush. The close-in canopy keeps it shaded and feeling tucked away from the main routes.

The ground is uneven and root-laced, with steep pinches that test traction. This one suits drivers with a bit of experience and a properly set-up rig. The surface turns greasy after rain, so take care on the slippery bits, and be ready for a recovery. A winch can be handy depending on how things are running on the day.

Better to travel with a mate and carry recovery gear rather than going it alone. Short, but it has a bit more bite than the main tracks through this forest country.
