Native forest wraps around the top of Lake Rotoehu, and this is a nice easy way to take it in. Pongakawa Valley Road is a scenic mix of gravel and sealed sections, and by tying it in with other roads nearby you can string together a loop around the lake while keeping off some of the seal.
