Pikiariki Road

4WD track in the Manawatu-Whanganui region

Pikiariki Road is a historic forestry road through native bush in northern Pureora Forest Park, a handy link route into the park's quieter corners.

Up in the northern part of Pureora Forest Park, this old forestry road threads through tall native bush as part of the wider network of backcountry roads weaving across the park. Plenty of forestry history here, and a few lesser-known side roads branch off along the way if you want to poke around the quieter corners.

It works as a link route more than a destination, handy for getting off the main routes and into the forest proper. Easy enough going as forestry roads go.

Pureora is known for its tall native trees and the birdlife, so this one's as much about the setting as the driving. Worth pulling over to take it in.
