Okui Road

4WD track in the Bay of Plenty region

Okui Road is a rough, narrow Bay of Plenty bush track out to Okui Hut, with scratchy going and a river crossing where the old bridge once stood.

(1)

Winding through the bush out to Okui Hut, this is a rough, narrow, scratchy track that hunters and other forest users share, so keep an eye out for anyone coming the other way.

Not one to tackle lightly if you value your paint. Plenty of little bushes and trees to rub up against, plus a couple of narrow spots that need driving carefully. Overall it's a medium-grade run with some light challenges rather than anything too hard.

The bridge before the hut has been removed, so you'll need to cross the river to reach it. Check water levels before committing. It isn't too deep, but watch for holes, and the bypass where the bridge once stood has a reasonable step or climb to negotiate.
