Okauaka Road is a straightforward run through native forest in the Manawatu-Whanganui region. It makes for an easy, scenic drive with plenty of bush to take in along the way, suitable for most 4WDs looking for a relaxed trip rather than a technical challenge.

The road is shared with cyclists, so keep an eye out for people using the cycle trail and give them room as you pass. Take it steady around blind corners where riders may be hard to spot.

Note that there are reports of a gate at the western end that can block access to the public road, so plan your route with that in mind and be prepared to turn back if needed.
