The Murumuru Track climbs to a high point on the hills in the Manawatu-Whanganui region. It begins as a narrow clay track, which can become slippery when wet, before continuing up through the hills toward the high point. The clay surface gives the route its distinctive character, so traction can vary with the weather. From the higher sections there are views out across the surrounding hill country. This is a compact track best suited to drivers comfortable on clay-based surfaces, with the slipperiness of the lower section being the main thing to be mindful of in damp conditions.
