Mt Studholme rises to 1086 metres in South Canterbury, and the climb up is well worth saving for a clear day. The reward at the top is stunning views over the surrounding farmland and ranges. This is a long, steep climb with an equally steep descent, and the track is bumpy in parts. The surface includes loose gravel in places on the steeper sections, so low range is handy on the way down to keep things controlled. The route is noticeably easier when dry. A short, sharp trip rather than a long expedition, but the panorama from the summit makes the effort worthwhile.
