Running up alongside the Matakitaki River, this is an easy gravel route through forestry country. A few sneaky access points drop down to the water, and the road ties together several others in the area, so it works well as a relaxed alternative to the main road.

It's straightforward gravel the whole way with nothing technical to deal with, so most vehicles will manage it fine. The road weaves through the forestry with the odd nice view opening up.

The scenery is pleasant rather than spectacular, but the river and bush make it a comfortable, scenic connector if you're poking around the wider Matakitaki area.
