4WD track in the Northland region
Lake Rotopokaka, or Coca Cola Lake, is an easy Northland coastal detour with cola-coloured swimmable water, dunes, and self-contained camping.
A short, easy offshoot down to the coast, this one drops you at a lake with water the colour of cola. The tint comes from the surrounding vegetation, and the lake sits right in close to the dunes and beach. Locals know it as Coca Cola Lake more than Lake Rotopokaka.
Good spot to stretch the legs, take a dip in the unusual water, and have a look at the dunes. If you're planning to stay the night, note the camping area is for certified self-contained vehicles only, so sort that out beforehand.
