Lake Rotopokaka aka Coca Cola Lake

4WD track in the Northland region

A short, easy offshoot in coastal Northland that drops down to Lake Rotopokaka, better known as Coca Cola Lake for its distinctive cola-coloured water, tinted by surrounding vegetation. The track is brief and leads on to a self-contained freedom camping area with access to the beach. It's a handy spot to stretch your legs, take a dip in the unusual lake, and enjoy the dunes and coastal scenery. The route is straightforward rather than technical, making it a relaxed detour for travellers exploring the region. Keep in mind that the camping area is reserved for certified self-contained vehicles. With both a swimmable lake and easy beach access close together, it's a pleasant short stop rather than a serious 4WD challenge.
