Climbing steadily into the edge of Ruahine Forest Park, this gravel road finishes at the Longview carpark, the trailhead for the Longview Hut walk. It runs through forestry country and is generally graded easy to medium.

A newer forestry-built section adds a steep climb that opens up a wide outlook over Central Hawke's Bay. With some of the logging done, the upper reaches give you those big views. The track is narrow in places, so keep an eye out for oncoming traffic and use the pull-offs where you can.
