4WD track in the Northland region
When you just need a quick, direct route onto Ninety Mile Beach, Hukatere Road in the Far North of Northland does the job. This is a high-speed gravel road that drops you straight from the highway down onto the sand, roughly midway along the beach. It's a straightforward run with no technical sections, making it a handy access point for those heading out onto the beach to explore or continue north or south along the coast. Expect open Northland farmland and dune country scenery as you approach, before the road delivers you right to the edge of one of New Zealand's most famous stretches of coastline. Keep in mind that travel on Ninety Mile Beach itself is tide-dependent, so always plan around the tides before committing to the sand. A practical, no-fuss connector for getting on and off the beach.
