4WD track in the Tasman region
A short gravel road leading out to the Cape Farewell lookout, at the northernmost tip of the South Island in the Tasman region. The drive is easy and well-formed, suited to most vehicles in good conditions, and ends at a viewpoint over dramatic coastal scenery. From the lookout you can take in rugged sea cliffs, rock arches and the windswept headlands where the Tasman Sea meets the ocean. It's a rewarding spot to pause and soak up the wild, exposed character of this remote corner of the country. Bring a jacket, as the cape is often buffeted by strong winds.
