4WD track in the Nelson region
Ben Nevis is a steep, narrow 4WD climb into pine forest on the edge of Mt Richmond Forest Park near Nelson, marked by orange DOC posts.
On the edge of Mt Richmond Forest Park, this one starts off easy on a mix of sealed and gravel back roads. You join Pig Valley Rd, then carry on onto Old Mill Rd before Ben Nevis Rd climbs steeply into pine forest.
The final section is where it gets interesting. Narrow and winding, 4WD is helpfyl to get up. Several forestry tracks branch off along the way, so stay on the main route and follow the orange DOC markers, otherwise it's easy to take a wrong turn.
The road finishes at a small parking area by a gate, right on the edge of the forest park.
