Out at the entrance to Raukumara Conservation Park, this is a proper remote spot with the bush closing in around you. The Takaputahi stream runs through, and there are some lovely swimming holes and good walks nearby if you're keen to stretch the legs.

It's a basic camp with non-powered tent sites, non-flush toilets, and water you take from the stream. Level ground can be limited, so pick your pad carefully, especially in the wetter months when the river-edge flats aren't always firm.

Across the stream there's a rough track that's worth a look if you don't mind a few scratches, though the crossing can run deep. This one's popular now, so please carry your rubbish back out with you. If there's a slip to the south, access from the north via Motu Road is the way in.
