Tucked behind the sand dunes of Uretiti Beach in Northland, this popular DOC campsite sits close to Waipu township on a long white-sand surf beach. The beach is just a short walk from the grounds, making it an easy spot to enjoy the surf and coastal scenery.

Sites are non-powered and suited to tents, with a cooking shelter, treated tap water suitable for drinking, non-flush toilets and a hot shower. The campsite is wheelchair accessible and rubbish disposal is available. Visitors consistently rate it highly, praising the well-maintained grounds and clean, tidy amenities — solid facilities for a DOC site.

There's no playground, so families with young children may want to plan their own entertainment, but the beach itself is a major drawcard. A great base for exploring the Waipu coast.
