Sanctuary Campsite

Campsite in the Gisborne region

Sanctuary Campsite is a quiet, secluded Gisborne tent site beside the Minginui Stream, under towering podocarp forest at the end of a gravel road.

(2)

Beside the Minginui Stream, this small camp sits under towering podocarp forest. It's quiet and secluded, at the end of a gravel access road, and you may well have it to yourself apart from a few locals.

The setting is classic Whirinaki, with short walks winding through the big old trees right from your tent. Facilities are basic but do the job: non-powered tent sites (more than three), a fire pit for campfires except during fire bans, non-flush toilets, and water drawn from the stream.

The gravel road in suits a higher-clearance vehicle better than a car. A peaceful spot to pitch up for the night and soak up one of the North Island's most impressive ancient forests, well away from the crowds.
