Rerewhakaaitu, Ash Pit Road Campsite

Campsite in the Bay of Plenty region

Rerewhakaaitu Ash Pit Road Campsite is a quiet Bay of Plenty lakeside spot with swimming, trout fishing and an easy class 1 4WD track at its eastern end.

(5)

A quiet lakeside spot on the shore of Lake Rerewhakaaitu, southeast of Rotorua, part of the wider recreation reserve. The water's calm and good for a swim, and there's plenty of trout close to shore if you fancy a fish. Easy-going place to relax for a night or two.

You get non-powered tent sites, a boat launch, a shelter for cooking and tap water, and it's wheelchair accessible with assistance.

At the eastern end of the campground there's an easy class 1 4WD track that runs through to Storm's Track entrance. Gentle drive and an enjoyable one, but it's tight in places with narrow corners that favour a shorter wheelbase. The vegetation sits close in and will leave scratches, so probably think twice before taking a brand-new vehicle down it.
