(4)

Sitting on the shore of Lake Rerewhakaaitu in the Bay of Plenty, this peaceful lakeside campsite is part of the Lake Rerewhakaaitu Recreation Reserve, southeast of Rotorua. It's a quiet spot popular for relaxing, swimming and trout fishing, with plenty of fish often found close to shore.

The reserve offers non-powered tent sites, a boat launch, a shelter for cooking and tap water, and is wheelchair accessible with assistance. With its calm waters and laid-back atmosphere, it's a great base for a low-key lakeside getaway.

At the eastern end of the campground you'll find an easy class 1 4WD track that runs through to Storm's Track entrance. It makes for an enjoyable, gentle drive, though the route is tight in places with narrow corners that favour shorter-wheelbase vehicles, and the close vegetation will leave scratches on bodywork, so think twice about taking a brand-new vehicle.
