Down at the northern foot of Raetea, this campsite sits in lowland coastal forest within the Mangamuka Gorge Scenic Reserve. Leafy and quiet, with native bush all around, and recent campers have often had the place to themselves.

Facilities are basic but they do the job: non-powered tent sites, non-flush toilets, and water from the stream. A ford crossing separates the camping area from the toilets, so you'll be wading across on foot, and vehicle access through it can drop out after heavy rain. Treat the stream water before you drink it, and bring everything you need with you.

Worth knowing the site is closed to vehicles from May through to Labour weekend, but you can still walk in and tent camp, or park up at the upper carpark if you're in a rooftop or truck setup. A simple, unhurried spot to pitch up for the night under the trees in the heart of the Far North.
