Raetea North Side Campsite

Campsite in the Northland region

Raetea North Side Campsite is a peaceful Northland bush camp in Mangamuka Gorge Scenic Reserve, with a ford crossing, tent sites and stream water.

(3)

Tucked at the northern foot of Raetea, this campsite sits within lowland coastal forest in the Mangamuka Gorge Scenic Reserve, Northland. It's a peaceful, leafy spot that recent campers have often had largely to themselves, surrounded by native bush in the heart of the Far North.

Facilities are basic but welcome: non-powered tent sites, non-flush toilets, and water drawn from the stream. A ford crossing is part of the experience here, separating the camping area from the bathroom facilities, and access can be affected after heavy rain. Treat the stream water before drinking and bring everything you need.

Note that the site is closed to vehicles from May through to Labour weekend, but you can still walk in to tent camp, or park up at the upper carpark if you're in a rooftop or truck setup. A simple, unhurried overnight base for those after quiet nights under the trees.
