Campsite in the Canterbury region
Puhi Puhi Campsite is a basic riverside grassy site in Canterbury, just off SH1, with long-drop toilets, stream water and a short bush walk.
A flat clearing beside a stream, just a short drive off State Highway 1. Easy to get to, and the river gives you somewhere to wander. The setting is quiet and low-key, with a 700 m bush walk running from the site if you want a quick stretch of the legs through the trees.
Facilities are basic: long-drop toilets and stream water, so come prepared and treat the water before drinking. There's no mobile reception. Puhi Puhi is popular enough that it can fill up toward the end of the day when things are busy.
Don't expect anything beyond the essentials, and be aware some folk find it a bit plain, more grassy carpark than proper camp. But if you're after a quiet overnight close to the highway with a river beside you, it does the job.
