Campsite in the Marlborough region
Mill Flat Campsite is a secluded grassy bush camp in Marlborough's Mount Richmond Forest Park, beside the river with a small crossing and open fires.
Tucked away in Mount Richmond Forest Park, Mill Flat is a secluded grassy clearing ringed by beech forest, sitting beside the river in inland Marlborough. It's a peaceful, spacious spot that's often quiet or even empty, making it a favourite for those after a genuine bush camp away from the crowds.
There's plenty of room to spread out, a couple of established fire pits with rock surrounds, and open fires are allowed when conditions permit. Non-powered tent sites, clean non-flush toilets, and water from the stream round out the basics. Access is via a small river crossing of around 500mm deep, which is the only way in or out, so check water levels before committing.
There's no cell service from the start of the road in, and you can't continue through to St Arnaud on this side of the river, so you'll need to backtrack to Renwick. Once you're in, there are some lovely walks nearby and beautiful river spots for swimming, fishing, and picnicking, with tramping and hunting also on offer in the surrounding forest.
