Campsite in the Northland region
Maitai Bay Campsite is a sheltered DOC spot on Northland's Karikari Peninsula, with a clean white-sand beach, pohutukawa shade and boat launching.
A sheltered, curving bay framed by pohutukawa, with a clean stretch of white sand and calm water. This DOC campsite sits right by the coast on the Karikari Peninsula, with easy access to the many bays dotted along that part of the coast. Good spot for families, plenty of room to spread out, and a genuinely quiet feel once you settle in.
Sites are non-powered and suited to tents and rooftop tents. There are flush and composting toilets, cold showers both enclosed and down at the beach, tap water, and boat launching. Sites are wheelchair accessible with assistance. You can prebook online or pay cash at the iron ranger, and prices are fair.
The top camp fills fast in peak season, though rooftop-tent campers can usually get a spot for the night. Staff are friendly, so do the right thing and respect the campsite rules. No dogs allowed, except those belonging to the residents living there.
