Campsite in the Canterbury region
Tucked into Lake Sumner Forest Park in Canterbury, Lake Taylor Campsite sits right on the lake's edge in a highly scenic high-country setting. It's a beautiful and popular spot, well suited to fishing and water sports, and a great base for exploring the area on foot or by mountain bike. The campsite offers non-powered tent sites, a shelter or kitchenette for cooking with a water tank for washing up, and a non-flush longdrop toilet. Water is available from a tap but is untreated, so boil before drinking. With assistance, the site is wheelchair accessible. The access track is easy enough for most vehicles in good conditions, and from here you can also link onto the track down towards Loch Katrine if you're after a bit more of a challenge. One thing to note: this open lakeside position catches plenty of wind, so come prepared with sturdy tent pegs and shelter.
