Campsite in the Canterbury region
Lake Camp is a basic Ashburton Lakes reserve on the edge of Lake Clearwater, with mountain and lake views, room to spread out, and jet boating allowed.
Sitting on the edge of Lake Clearwater in the Ashburton Lakes country, this is a basic back country reserve next to the hut sites. Overnight camping is allowed, and there's a toilet and water on hand, though you'll want to boil the water before drinking it. An honesty box is provided at Lake Clearwater.
The setting is what draws people. You get views across both lakes and out to the surrounding mountains, and there's plenty of room to spread out and find a good spot. Folks rate it highly, and it's worth a look even just for a day trip.
Jet boating is permitted on the lake. Worth knowing that no dogs are allowed at either Lake Clearwater or Lake Camp, with a $300 fine for breaches.
