Lake Camp is a back country camping ground in Canterbury's Ashburton Lakes area, sitting on the edge of Lake Clearwater adjacent to the hut sites. It's a basic reserve where overnight camping is permitted, with a toilet and water on hand (water must be boiled before drinking). Lake Clearwater has an honesty box provided. The setting is the real drawcard, with great views across both lakes and the surrounding mountains, and visitors consistently rate it highly for its stunning scenery. There's plenty of room and good camping spots to spread out. Jet boating is permitted on the lake, and it makes a worthwhile stop even just for a day trip. Please note that absolutely no dogs are allowed at either Lake Clearwater or Lake Camp, with a $300 fine for breaches.
