Campsite in the Manawatu-Whanganui region
Kimberley Reserve sits in a peaceful bush setting beside the Ōhau River, just inland from Levin in the Manawatū-Whanganui region and a handy stopover north of Wellington. The reserve is spacious and stays surprisingly quiet, even on long weekends, with little road noise to disturb a night's sleep. The river offers good, fairly safe access and there are popular swimming holes and walking tracks nearby. Plenty of grassy areas make it ideal for families to enjoy a picnic, a spot of cricket, touch rugby or a walk with the dog. Dogs are allowed off leash but must be kept under control at all times and away from swimmers, and children should be kept in direct sight. Camping is permitted from 1 December to 28 April, subject to availability, and a permit is required during this season. A toilet and changing block is open during the camping period. A relaxed, well-regarded spot for a riverside stay.
