Campsite in the Canterbury region
Hurunui River Mouth Reserve is a quiet Canterbury coastal camping ground with river views, basic toilets and non-powered zero waste sites.
Right where the Hurunui River meets the coast, this quiet riverside camping ground sits well out of the way. Administered by the Domett Reserves Committee, it's the sort of place you might have to yourself outside peak season, with pleasant river views and easy space for the kids to roam.
Facilities are basic. Non-powered sites and basic toilets only, and it's a zero waste site, so you'll need to take all your rubbish home. Come prepared and self-sufficient.
It's at its best in fine weather when the river is running clean, and repeat visitors have rated it among their favourite spots over the years. Pick a good-weather window and you'll get a genuinely peaceful coastal-river stay.
