Campsite in the Canterbury region
Harper River Campsite is a flat, well-sheltered gravel spot in Canterbury with a long-drop, shelter and running water, good for a night or two.
Flat gravel ground on the Harper River, ringed by windbreak tree lines that keep it genuinely sheltered when the weather turns.
Facilities are simple: a long-drop toilet, a shelter you can duck into if it's rough, and running water onsite. The area is fairly small but fine for a night or two, with signage allowing stays of up to five days. Expect some longer grass in places, though that hasn't stopped anyone setting up comfortably.
Popular with hikers and family groups. You can usually find a spot, but it tends to fill up later in the day, so arriving earlier helps. Quiet, easy place to pitch up if you're exploring the Harper River area.
