Set beside the Selwyn River in Canterbury, within reach of Christchurch, Chamberlain's Ford Reserve is a popular riverside campsite with plenty of room to park and good natural wind shelter. The river setting suits fishing, swimming, picnics, casual recreation and bird watching, though river depth varies, so check water quality before swimming. There's a great seating area for meals along with a free public cooking and BBQ station, making it an easy spot to settle in. Facilities include clean toilets with lighting and dish-washing sinks (water is non-potable), plus rubbish and recycling stations. Camping is free, with a donation box on site to help support the reserve. Dogs are welcome but must be under effective control at all times. It's a tidy, friendly little spot that can get busy over the summer months.
