ZigZag Road climbs into the hills of the ManawatuWhanganui region, true to its name as it switchbacks its way upward. It's a simple, well-formed gravel road rather than a technical 4WD challenge, making it an easy and accessible run for most vehicles.

The reward is the scenery. As you wind up the slopes you'll catch some great views out across the surrounding hill country, with the elevation building steadily as the road snakes through the terrain.

At the top the road links onto various other routes in the area, so it works well as a connector to string together a longer adventure through the hills. A good option if you're after relaxed gravel touring with a bit of elevation and a view, rather than rough off-road terrain.
