White Rock

4WD track in the Wellington region

(2)

White Rock sits on the remote southern Wairarapa coast in the Wellington region, taking its name from the distinctive giant white rock that dominates the shoreline. The route runs out through rolling, isolated farmland and hill country before reaching the rugged coast, where you're rewarded with wide-open sea views. It's a gravel road for most of the way in, generally well maintained, though it narrows in places, so take it steady and watch for oncoming traffic on the tighter sections. This is a great option for a relaxed day trip if you want a taste of the wild Wairarapa coast without overly technical driving. The remoteness is part of the appeal, so come prepared and self-sufficient as services are well behind you once you head out. The reward at the end is a quiet, scenic coastal landmark well worth the drive.
